President of Banco Sabadell

After graduating in economics from the University of Barcelona and obtaining his doctorate from the University of Minnesota (USA), he worked as a professor of economic theory at the University of Oviedo in 1982.

In 1983 he held the position of Director of Studies and Strategy at the National Institute of Industry (INI) and, a year later and until 1986, he was Director of Planning at the same organization. When he was thirty-seven years old, his life took a new direction when he joined the banking business.

Shortly after his appointment as president of the Barcelona Plaza Financiera Association in 1986, he was recruited by Banco Sabadell to act as technical general secretary. In 1990, after four intense years of immersion in Sabadell’s economic strategy, he was proposed as his father’s successor as director and general manager.

Since 1999 he has held the chairmanship of the bank. He is also currently a member of the General Council of the Spanish Banking Association, a member of the Management Committee of the Deposit Guarantee Fund and a member of the board of the Círculo de Economía de Barcelona.
