Commissioner of PERTE FOR VANGUARDARY HEALTH

Graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid, Doctor of Medicine, specialist in Cardiology and clinical researcher for the National Health System. For more than 20 years she combined research, healthcare and teaching activities in the field of healthcare at the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, with special dedication to the care of patients with genetically based heart disease and their families, and to the performance and interpretation of cardiac imaging tests and genetic studies.

In the field of healthcare management, from her position as Head of Section in the Cardiology Service of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, she has been responsible for the coordination of in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiology care, and has participated in the implementation of mechanisms to facilitate continuity of care. She has also collaborated in the coordination of the National Reference Centres (CSUR) for Familial Heart Disease and Adult Congenital Heart Disease at the centre and has been a member of the Pharmacy Committee.

Between 2018 and 2021 she was director general of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, the main state body that coordinates and promotes biomedical research in Spain, and one of the main scientific-technical advisory institutions in the field of public health. Since August 2021, she has held the position of Secretary General for Research at the Ministry of Science and Innovation, and has been the Commissioner of the PERTE de Salud de Vanguardia since last December.

In addition, she has teaching experience as a collaborating professor of practical teaching at the Complutense University of Madrid, associate professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the Carlos III University and visiting professor in the Department of Genetics at Harvard University.
