Carlos San Basilio
Carlos San Basilio was born in Lugo in September 1965. He holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Autonomous University of Madrid (1988) and has been a member of the Senior Corps of State Trade Experts and Economists since 1990. Additionally, he earned a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University (1997).
Since 2024, he has served as Chairman of the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). Prior to this role, he was Director of Corporate Strategy at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) from 2021 to 2024. Previously, he held several high-level positions in the economic and financial sector, including Secretary General of the Treasury and International Financing from 2018 to 2021, during which he also served as a Board Member of the CNMV, the Bank of Spain, and the FROB.
From 2016 to 2018, he was Director General of the Treasury, and earlier, from 2015 to 2016, he served as Director of Resolution at the Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring (FROB). His international experience was further enhanced between 2013 and 2015, when he was Economic and Financial Counselor to the European Union. He also held the role of Director General of State Assets in 2012 and Director General of COFIDES from 2010 to 2012.
In the financial markets sector, San Basilio was Executive Director of the Market for Treasury Securities (MTS) from 2004 to 2010, strengthening his expertise in asset management and public debt markets. His career reflects extensive experience in financial management, international markets, and regulatory and supervisory bodies.
