Gabriel Escarrer
Gabriel Escarrer Jaume graduated in 1993 from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Finance and Business Management. He later worked at the investment bank Salomon Smith Barney in New York, where he took part in the initial public offering of Meliá Hotels International in 1996. He subsequently joined the family business while completing a postgraduate program at ESADE. In 1999, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer, leading the company’s expansion and technological modernization and driving its growth both in Spain and internationally.
During his tenure, Escarrer Jaume implemented a hotel asset refurbishment plan and strengthened Meliá’s position in the global tourism sector. With a solid financial background and a strong focus on innovation and customer experience, he successfully navigated the international financial crisis, consolidating the company’s organizational and financial structure. In 2016, he assumed the executive powers of his father, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, while retaining his roles as Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, leading the group through a period of renewal and expansion.
Escarrer Jaume has promoted flagship projects such as the redevelopment of mature tourist destinations, including Calviá Beach in Mallorca and Torremolinos in Málaga, earning recognition for his work. Under his leadership, Meliá Hotels International has been recognized in the MERCO Corporate Reputation ranking and has strengthened its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. His long-term vision is to continue the company’s international expansion, positioning it among the major multinational hotel chains while remaining true to the family values that have underpinned the group’s success.
