INTERNATIONAL INVESTORS ARE INCREASINGLY TAKING CSR INTO CONSIDERATION IN THEIR PURCHASING DECISIONS

Spain Investors Day (SID), acknowledging the growing importance that international investors attribute to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies, has organized this year’s round table “Corporate Social Responsibility in Spanish Listed Companies”, which will analyze the current situation and challenges faced by companies in the face of CSR.

During the round table, which is organized in collaboration with the SERES Foundation, investors will be able to learn about the challenges, objectives and risks faced by Spanish listed companies in managing corporate social responsibility and their CSR plans for the coming year.

Furthermore, the commitments made by the companies regarding the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDA) will be revisited. In Spain, an increasing number of companies are taking SDA into account when defining their CSR strategy. In this regard, it should be noted that 84% of the organizations and institutions participating in the VI Informe Social de las Empresas by Fundación SERES, claims to take SDA into account when it comes to CSR strategies.

Francisco Román, president of the SERES Foundation, will be responsible for chairing the round table tomorrow, Tuesday 14th, which will be attended by top-level business leaders such as José Carlos García de Quevedo, president of ICO; José Bogas, CEO of ENDESA; Juan López Belmonte, CEO of ROVI and Rafael Contreras, president of AIRTIFICIAL.

Según Román, “la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa forma parte intrínseca del ideario social de la mayoría de nuestras grandes empresas, cada día más comprometidas con los programas de integración, innovación, inversión sostenible y competitividad”.

The experts at the table will present their companies’ CSR plans, as an example of the important work in this field, which is becoming an increasingly important part of large listed Spanish companies and also of the investment criteria of the international funds that come to the SID.

International investors are increasingly more demanding in terms of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, to the extent that there are specific stock market indexes and investment funds that only invest in companies that they consider socially responsible and that meet the highest standards in this area.

Influence in investment decisions

The Spain Investors Day International Forum serves as a showcase for Spain’s leading companies to international investors and funds from various countries that will gather in this edition of the SID, on 14th and 15th of January 2020.

SPAIN INVESTORS DAY (SID) WILL CELEBRATE ITS 10TH EDITION ON THE 14TH AND 15TH OF JANUARY IN MADRID

  • The organization expects to beat the record of the previous edition with 40 major listed companies and more than 150 international investors
  • The drop in international investment, in addition to the new political situation after the elections make it more necessary than ever to explain the strengths of our companies and the action plans of the new government

His Majesty King Felipe VI will chair the Honorary Committee of the 10th edition of the Spain Investors Day (SID) international financial forum, which will be held on the 14th and 15th of January in Madrid, as confirmed today by the SID governing board. The meeting will bring together, for two days, international investors from various countries with Spanish listed companies and with the most outstanding members of the economic board of the new Government.

At the beginning of the year, the SID has become the ideal scenario for the Government to present its economic plans to investors and for companies to advance their results from last year as well as their budgets for 2020. “We will work to ensure that investors are fully aware of the situation of the Spanish economy and that listed companies can present their future plans to as many large funds and financial institutions as possible” claimed Benito Berceruelo, President of the SID.

The organizers expect to exceed the figures reached in the previous edition of the SID, with 40 large listed companies, more than a hundred and a half investors and the participation of about 1,200 guests from the business and financial world in the opening events, lunches, official dinner, plenary meetings and meetings one-to-one between companies and investors.

2020 will begin with uncertainty all over the world due to the global economic recession, the changes that a hard Brexit could generate, the trade wars between the great powers or the decrease in industrial production throughout the euro zone. When it comes to Spain, we are facing a reverse process in the international investment and a new political situation after last elections. “It is a context of economic and political uncertainty that worries investors and makes it more necessary than ever to explain and debate the public action in economic and budgetary matters, so that we can generate trust before the international investors community”, adds Berceruelo.

The strategic partners that make the Spain Investors Day forum possible are BNP PARIBAS, European leader in financial services, and EXANE BNP PARIBAS, one of the main mediators in European equity, and the forum is sponsored by international firms such as GRANT THORNTON, one of the world’s leading audit, tax and financial advisory firms, and AON, a world leader in risk management services, insurance and reinsurance mediation, and social welfare and human resources consulting. This meeting is also supported by CECABANK, PRISA, BME and the public entity ICEX. Participating as collaborators are ICO, LINKLATERS and EQUIPO ECONÓMICO.
