Cristina Herrero Sánchez
She holds a degree in Economics and Business Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid and belongs to the Senior Corps of State Auditors and Inspectors; she is also a member (on leave of absence) of the Senior Corps of Inspectores de Hacienda.
Her career in public administration began at the Intervención General de la Administración del Estado (IGAE), where between 1993 and 2000 she was Head of Area in the Sub-Directorate General for Analysis and Economic Accounts of the public sector; between 2000 and 2005 as an advisory member; and from November 2005 to March 2014 she was Deputy Director General of Budget Analysis and Institutional Organisation of the Autonomous Public Sector, supervising budgetary stability and regional financing.
In 2014, she joined AIReF as Director of the Budget Analysis Division, assuming a key role in the evaluation and control of public spending.
Since January 2020, she has served as President of AIReF, an appointment confirmed by Royal Decree 439/2020 after unanimous approval by Parliament.
Under her leadership, AIReF acts as an independent body that ensures the sustainability of public finances, budgetary stability and transparency in the public sector in Spain.
Recognised for her technical expertise and professional integrity, Cristina Herrera has received distinctions such as Gran Cruz al Mérito en el Servicio de la Economía and various awards for her contribution to economic assessment, transparency and fiscal responsibility in Spain.
